Nancy Wilson singer, actress and prominent renowned civil rights activist, passed away peacefully on Thursday, aged 81, after a battling long illness. She was part of the
historic 1965 protests in Selma, Alabama, later in 2005 was recognized for
her work by being inducted into the International Civil Rights:
Walk of Fame at the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site in
Atlanta, Georgia.
A versatile artist she did it all': From scoring acting roles in Hawaii Five-O, Police Story, and the 1995 feature The Meteor Man. She also have many years hosting NPR’s “Jazz Profiles” series and excelled at performing various genres of singing.
A Grammy award-winning singer, in
the 60s alone she released eight albums that reached the
top 20 on Billboard's pop charts. Her style elegant and conversational, her polished pop-jazz vocals earn her
the nickname “The Girl with the Honey-Coated Voice,” made her a top concert performer. She was
best known for songs like "Guess Who I Saw
Today" and the 1964 hit "(You Don't Know) How Glad I Am." as her breakthrough.

A Family celebration of her life will be held most likely in her birth month, this coming February. As she wishes there will be no funeral services.
